Enjoy a taste of Paris at home. Even if you can’t fly to France right now, you can enjoy incredible macarons in Ottawa from Bonbonnieres. Not to be confused with a macaroon, a macaron is a light and airy French sandwich cookie made with ground almonds, sugar and egg whites.
They are one of my favourite desserts, and those close to me can attest I’ve dragged them across New York or Paris to shop at the fanciest macaron shops like Pierre Hermé and Ladurée.
But back at home, Bonbonnieres is my new favourite spot for macarons. I recently tried their Valentine’s Day collection, and it was just as good as the ones from the boutiques in France.
But unlike Ladurée, they aren’t $4.50 CAD per treat. You can get a dozen for only $25 (meaning they are less than half the price).
When ordering the Valentine’s day macarons or the standard ones throughout the year, you can select four flavours per dozen.
The available flavours now are:
- red velvet
- salted caramel
- cookies and cream
- Ferrero Rocher
If you order past Valentine’s Day, you can find an updated flavour list on their Instagram page.
Inside my beautifully packaged box, all the types were delicious, but my favourite was the pistachio. I highly recommend you ask for it. They were perfectly airy without being overly sweet and tasted freshly made.
I especially adored their romantic design to them too. Some were white with an adorable conversation heart design with messages like “love you”, “hugs” and “kisses.” In contrast, others were bright red and shaped like a heart. The styling of everything was perfection.
If you are still searching for a Valentine’s Day gift, it is time to get your order in now. Pre-orders need to be made by February 5.
If you miss the deadline, you’ll still be able to order the regular macarons. Without question, I’ll be ordering from this exceptional Ottawa small business again. The quality and price are extraordinary, and they are a hidden gem that you need to discover.
Place your Bonbonnieres order by sending them a direct message on Instagram at @bonbonnieres.
