Midas Touch: DIY Gold Leaf Art

eat-well-travel-often-printable1

The gold trend is still holding strong, and if you check out my Pinterest boards you’ll notice I’ve been pinning gold leaf art for a bit now. The thing is as much as I love all the ones available I also wanted to be able to create my own text.  So if you are like me and would like to make your own gold foil art this DIY is for you as you can make your own print without even touching gold leaf by using my easy photo editing guide.

DIY GOLD LEAF PRINT

Step 1: Type out your text in a photo editor such as Adobe Photoshop or Elements, for this one I wrote “eat well travel often”.  If you don’t have either you can get a free trial of Adobe Photoshop here. In my example each word is on a different layer so I could play with alignment but if you want to keep it simple all your text can be on one layer.

Step 2: Add a layer of gold foil texture above the text layer. Download gold foil texture here. Put your mouse between the foil layer and the text layer, hold alt and click to create a clipping mask. After you’ve done this the gold foil layer will seem indented in, and the words will now look gold.

Step 3: Finally I added a black background, but the choice is up to you if you want to play with colors, or perhaps another image. Easy no?

Anyone can do this type of art, and you could even replace the gold for any other photo or graphic.
