DIY Pumpkin Keg

DIY Pumpkin Keg

Over the summer, I tried making a watermelon keg for a BBQ party and was amazed how easy it was to make. So with pumpkin season upon us I decided to try reusing my tapping kit to make a DIY pumpkin keg to serve up beer for friends.

To start you want to select a large pumpkin, with a pumpkin that is tall in shape being best.

To turn your pumpkin into a keg you will need to cut off the top of the pumpkin. Make sure to put the top aside as you will need it later. Next using a spoon, or ice cream spoon remove all seeds and stringy bits from inside the pumpkin and on the pumpkin top that you cut off as you don’t want that stuff floating in your beer.

In the tapping kit I got it came with a small tool to make a hole in the pumpkin. To make the hole simply position it near the bottom of the pumpkin where you want the tap to go. Press and lightly turn the tool and it will make a hole in the pumpkin.

Finally, it is time to add the handle to the keg. To do this insert the keg tap on the front side of the pumpkin and screw on the back part inside of the pumpkin to hold the keg tap in place.

That is it! It is very easy to make your own pumpkin keg, and it is a great way to impress your guests and let them handle refilling their cups.
