When traveling to La Rochelle, France you need to visit the aquarium. La Rochelle Aquarium is the most popular attraction in the Charente-Maritime region and the 6th most popular in France with 800,000 visitors per year! The amazing private aquarium focuses on protection and conservation marine species and has 12000 marine animals in 78 aquariums.
Within the La Rochelle Aquarium there is the Atlantic room that displays local species, the Mediterranean room, Oceanic area, the jellyfish area, the Caribbean room, Indo-Pacific room, with a huge 100,000 litre tank, a shark area where you see several types of sharks, the tropical greenhouse and the amphitheatre aquarium with a 150,000 litre with sea turtles.
In addition to regular or massive sized tanks, the Rochelle Aquarium also has several different aquariums where you can watch the fish swim above you (or all around you).
For 16 euros per adult visiting, La Rochelle Aquarium was one of my highlights of visiting La Rochelle. I had such as wonderful time spending several hours watching the marine life. English tourist will be happy to note that you can request an English audio guide when you purchase your tickets!
