This summer you need to visit Fairmont Chateau Laurier’s patio La Terrasse which offers an extraordinary view of Ottawa. Located on the exterior of Ottawa’s castle you can enjoy the gorgeous view of Parliament Building, Ottawa River and Gatineau Hills.
The decor of La Terrasse is stunning, with small fountains and freshly growing herbs decorating the space. Overhead there is a large canopy to help protect you from the sun while still allowing you to enjoy the view.
Fairmont hotels are known for offering extraordinary food, and La Terrasse is no exception. It is the perfect spot to go for lunch, dinner, dessert or cocktails and appetizers. On the menu, there are cheese and charcuterie boards, a massive list of starters like lobster mango salad, Moroccan lamb meatballs and even poutine.
For mains, there are tons of fantastic options taking influence from around the world. You can enjoy Japanese Udon, Thai chicken salad along with classic dishes like salmon filet, strip loin, and roasted cauliflower steak.
Unable to pick one dish, I decided to split all the plates below with a friend. For my first dish, I tried the roasted cauliflower steak with caramelized onion puree, roasted dates, quinoa, five spiced walnuts and a citrus mustard vinaigrette. The roasted cauliflower steak was by far the best cauliflower steak I’ve ever had. It was so flavourful while the pairing of roasted dates and the five spice was simply divine.
The second entre was the salmon filet with spring pea puree, glazed cinnamon cap, shaved radish, sweet peas, beet strings, fennel beurre blanc, dressed with micro greens. The fish here was cooked perfectly, and I loved the spring pea puree.
For dessert, I tried the matcha ice cream sandwich with chocolate black sesame biscuit and yuzu pearls. For this dessert the yuzu pearls made the dish, they explode in your mouth with bright citrus flavour.
Finally, I ordered flaming baked Alaska with housemade strawberry ice cream, strawberry jus and Grand Marnier. While the flames were very tiny, the flavour of the strawberry jus and ice cream tastes of freshly picked summer strawberries (and plenty of Grand Marnier).
If you haven’t been here already you are missing out, as La Terrasse is my new favourite summer patio in Ottawa. It is impossible to beat the impressive view and delicious food. If you are looking for a romantic date spot or a fun spot to go for cocktails with friends, you should visit La Terrasse.
New for this year La Terrasse will stay open until September. The patio is open seven days a week from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm. No reservations are available, tables are available first come first served.
