If you are looking for a fun way to spend an evening with your friends the Loft Board Game Lounge is the perfect place to spend a few hours laughing and developing your strategy to win the board game.
Located on Waller Street, The Loft Board Game Lounge is centrally located downtown within an old building that is an entertainment complex with the Loft on the top floor, Level One (a video game and board game cafe also owned by The Loft) on the main floor, and Waller Street Brewing (a craft brewery) in the basement.
The Loft Board Game Lounge has long been a favorite spot of mine with its stone walls, vaulted ceiling and couches near a fireplace it is a particularly nice spot to go in the fall in winter when you are looking for an indoor activity to escape the cold.
No matter your time limit or interest in board games there is abundant game choices to pick from on the massive wall of games, some of the many categories of games include: strategy, coop, family, adult, trivia, party, and light strategy. The games list is also constantly expanding, which you can find listed on the Loft’s website.
The staff at the Loft Board Game Lounge are extraordinary and are more than willing to help you select a board game and explain all the rules to you, so you can just sit back and have fun with your friends. While gaming you also order a variety of coffees, craft beers, pizzas, sandwiches desserts or bowls or snacks such as candy bowls.
If you are visiting the Loft here are some of my personal suggestions of games to play:
Quick Games: Bang (a western shoot-out game between the sheriff and outlaws that requires bluffing. 4-7 players), Zombie Dice (a very simple dice game perfect for people who like Yahtzee, where you are trying to roll as many brains as possible. 2-8 players), Love Letter (a card game where you need to use your deduction skills to get your love letter to the princess).
Adult: Cards Against Humanity (the game describes itself as a “party game for horrible people” where you compete to fill in the blanks with the best answer. 4-30 players).
Strategy: Dominion (a game where you are a monarch and compete against the other players for the unclaimed lands, upgrading your castles, and gaining gold to have the most impressive dominion. This game has so many different strategies and cards you play with that each time you play it feels fresh and challenging. 2-4 players, up to 6 with the expansion Intrigue.)
Coop: Pandemic (you work as a team to stop and cure a pandemic spreading around the world. There is also a version Reign of Cthulhu where you have to stop Love Craft’s Old One. 2-4 players.)
When visiting the Loft Board Game Lounge there is a $5 ‘stay and play’ fee after 3pom on weekdays and all day on weekends which covers the costs of replacing and updating the board games. If you happen to play a board game you particularly enjoy and want to purchase, there is a variety of board games for sale within the Loft Lounge too.
