When Wayfair invited me to share my tip on how to be a phenomenal guest when attending holiday parties I got super excited for a chance to share my favorite hostess gift, a DIY rose gift box that always impressed the party host!
The holiday season is quickly approaching which means soon you’ll be going to a variety of parties hosted by friends or family for Christmas, New Years Eve, Hanukkah or for themed parties such as ugly sweater competition or cookie exchanges. Instead of showing up at the next holiday party with the standard bouquet of flowers or bottle of wine, do something a little different with this holiday-themed DIY rose gift box.
As someone who has hosted my fair share of holiday parties, I can tell you from experience while I love fresh flowers, when you are hosting a party getting unarranged flowers does not make the best gift as it takes you away from the party as you need to spend time finding a vase and arranging the flowers. My solution is to bring the flowers pre-arranged, with a very trendy rose flower box so the host of the party can just set them on the table.
DIY Rose Gift Box
This DIY is super easy to do, all you need is 2 dozen roses, a gift box, floral foam, flower moss, wax paper and some tape and you can arrange your own rose gift box in under 10 minutes which will look as good as any of the arrangements you see at chic florist shops.
Select a gift box for your flower arrangement which will become the base of the arrangement. I used a 10″ x 6.5″ gift box. When selecting a box black, or white work best as it will match with anyone’s decor but metallic shades of silver or gold would also look amazing. If you can’t find a paper gift box in the colour you want just spray paint the box in the colour you want before starting the project.
For a 10″ x 6.5″ gift box two blocks of floral foam were needed to fill the entire box. Using a sheet of wax paper I wrapped the bottom of the foam to help collect any excess water that might leak through the foam. To hold the wax paper in place I used small pieces of clear tape.
Place the wrapped blocks of foam into the box.
Pour water onto the floral foam so that the foam is wet.
Cut the stems of the roses short so there is only 2-3″ or stem and remove all the leaves.
Insert the roses in a grid layout. I was able to fit 4 roses vertically, and 6 horizontally for this arrangement, using 24 roses total.
When placing your flowers into the floral foam do your best to align the flowers so they are all the same height.
To complete the flower box I covered the flower foam with some green moss and added a paper label to the front of the box with double sided tape that says Happy Holidays.
Here is the completed rose box.
The completed arrangement can be made minutes before leaving for the party or can be prepared a day ahead of the party. If you prep the flowers the day before, prior to leaving the party just pour a bit of extra water onto the foam, and your gift is ready to be given.
Are you getting excited about the holiday season? I know I am! I love all the decor, the sparkling dresses, mistletoe, and finding the perfect gift for everyone on my list. If you aren’t done shopping for your holiday gifts, make sure to check out all the great gift ideas at Wayfair.
